Spirit Communication: Signs
Signs are great ways to receive messages from your spirit companions without needing divination tools. They can also be helpful in honing your telepathic abilities, which I will go over later in this post.
When people normally think of signs, they expect dramatic moments that are unmistakably a spiritual experience. However, you may have to temper your expectations. While experiences can surely vary, signs are often easier to miss than people think. You may miss a sign being sent to you, or you may even interpret an event as a sign when it wasn’t.
This guide will go over how you can use the practice of asking for signs more effectively in a way that’s less confusing for both parties involved. Trust us, it’s not just you who can have difficulty receiving signs. Spirits can have trouble sending effective signs, too.
What Are Spiritual Signs?
First, let’s start by defining Spiritual Signs. A spiritual sign can be an experience, a certain word or phrase, repeated numbers, etc. It can be anything that feels meaningful to you or your spirit. And we truly mean anything.
Asking for Signs
The number one thing you need to do when asking for signs is to be specific. As specific as possible. Do not just say “Give me a sign.” What might be a significant sign to your spirit companion may be insignificant to you. You may miss it, mistake a completely unrelated event as a sign, or run yourself ragged just thinking about whether something is a sign. As usual, communication is key.
Creating Signs
You can create as many signs as you want. Again, just make sure they’re specific. This is my basic formula, but tweak it as you see fit.
If [specific event] happens within [specific conditions], I will interpret it as [specific meaning].
But, you can get even more specific than that! Try to contain these 5 items when asking for a sign:
Signal Type - What are you generally looking for?
Specific Details - What are the exact details about you’re looking for?
Quantity/Frequency - How many?
Timeframe/Boundary - By when?
Interpretation - What does this sign mean?
Let’s look at a real example Den came up with. When I wasn’t feeling confident in my telepathic abilities, this is what he suggested through telepathy:
If you see 3 saturated blue cars before you reach your destination, that is a sign that your telepathy is good.
Now, let’s see how that includes all 5 items:
Signal Type - Blue cars
Specific Details - Not just any blue, but a saturated blue. We actually looked over a color wheel to decide what would be considered “saturated blue,” since there’s room for miscommunication there. This item is all about leaving no room for miscommunication.
Quantity/Frequency - 3
Timeframe/Boundary - Before I reach my destination
Meaning/Interpretation - My telepathy is accurate
For those curious, I did end up seeing 3 saturated blue cars before I reached my destination, which was the vet’s office. I didn’t see them on the road. Instead, I saw 3 of them clustered together as I pulled into the parking lot. Den likes to play pranks like that 😞
Let’s see another example that I established with Den early on in our relationship.
If you want to leave this relationship, show me the Lovers card reversed 3 times in a 24-hour period.
Again, we see the 5 items:
Signal Type - The Lovers Card
Specificity - Orientation of the card, and what I consider “reversed.” What I consider reversed is especially helpful if a card lands sideways.
Quantity/Frequency - 3 Times
Timeframe - 24 Hours
Interpretation - Den wants to leave the relationship.
He then immediately showed me The Lovers Reversed as a way to prove he could do it 💀
Extra Tips
When creating your sign, be mindful of what you’re guaranteed to see versus what won’t happen.
Let’s say you decide that your sign is something like “I’m going to hear this song three times in a 24-hour period.” This isn’t a very quality sign if your playlist is likely to play this song or you have it on repeat. To make it a more meaningful sign, I would change it to “I’ll hear this song being played on a device that is not my own within a 24-hr period.”
On the other side of things, let’s say your area is currently in a heat wave, and your sign is something like, “It will snow today.” This is not a sign you can reasonably have in the middle of a heat wave.
Communicate with Your Companion
The best way to tell if your sign is a quality one is by asking your spirit companion. You can use plenty of tools to get a yes/no answer, including pendulums, for which we have a guide here. Let them know what you want to use as a sign, let them provide feedback, and come to an agreement.
The confirmation and feedback steps are really important. As an example, you might find that one spirit companion can easily manipulate the orientation of Tarot cards, while another doesn’t. These steps help manage everyone’s expectations.
If you want to test your telepathy, you can also ask your spirit companion through telepathy to create a sign of their own. Then, you would be the one providing feedback until you both confirm that a sign is reasonable.
Final Thoughts
Signs can be a fun way to communicate with your spirit companions on the go, but it requires both sides to establish expectations and reduce ambiguity.
Also, remember that communication through signs is a skill. It is a skill for you, and it is a skill for your companions. It may take more experimentation than you think. You’ll find that some signs work while others might turn out ineffective. It’s okay to have these bumps in the road. What matters is working through them.
